Protection Against Scammers

In this article, we’ll go over the most common schemes used by scammers and how to protect yourself.

1. Fake giveaways and “deposit for activation”

Scammers create a fake group similar to the official Veles Community EN. They promise a bonus, cashback, or giveaway and require you to:

  • transfer funds to a “special wallet” or bot;
  • provide wallet details or even a private key.

Signs of a fake group:

  • You were added without your consent — at the top it says “… invited you to this group.”
  • There is a “Report spam and leave” button.
  • Messaging is disabled — only admins can post content.

How to protect yourself:

  • Always verify information in the official @VelesCommunityEn chat.
  • Don’t believe promises of easy money.
  • Check the account name carefully (it is often faked, e.g., VelesSuport).
  • In Telegram, set group join restrictions: Settings → Privacy and Security → Groups and Channels → My Contacts / Nobody.

After asking a question in the chat, a “support” account with a similar name might contact you.

Common things they offer or say:

  • “Account problem” or “Suspicious activity”;
  • “Urgent consultation”;
  • Ticket confirmation;
  • A link to “Google Meet” (actually fake);
  • Asking you to download a file, fill out a form, or join a giveaway.

How to protect yourself:

  • Contact @VelesSupportBot first and add it to your contacts.
  • Do not click on any links, even if they look safe.
  • Ignore calls in Telegram — it’s easier to manipulate you in a live conversation.

A “friendly” person messages you, shares a success story, and invites you to a “private group”. The first transactions may be successful, but in the end you lose your funds.

How to protect yourself:

  • Don’t trust “ready-made recipes for success.”
  • Discuss any offer in the official community first.
  • Don’t waste your time on scammers.

Your friend or relative asks to borrow money. Before sending anything — make sure the request is genuine.

How to check:

  • Contact them via another communication channel or confirm through mutual acquaintances.
  • Use unique, strong passwords and password managers.
  • Stay informed about current scam schemes.
